The House of Anne Frank

The Anne Frank House tells the story of a Jewish girl and her family who lived in hiding in the annex of the building during the Nazi persecution in the Second World War. The doorway to the annex of the building at Prinsengracht 263 was concealed behind a moveable bookcase constructed especially for this purpose. During the hiding period Anne Frank kept a diary. In it she described daily life in the back annex, the isolation and the fear of discovery. Her diary is now a famous book and has been translated in more than 55 languages.

In the Anne Frank House you will see quotations from the diary, historical documents, photographs, film images and original objects that belonged to those in hiding and their helpers. These items take you through the events that took place. The original diary of Anne Frank and other notebooks are on display in the museum. Visitors can also go on a virtual journey through the Anne Frank House, obtaining background information about the people and World War Two.
