IBOLYA I Maaike Bartman en Iby Csanyi Fritz
IBOLYA is a women’s clothing line inspired by the 1960s. Maaike Bartman and Iby Csanyi Fritz are the designers behind the brand IBOLYA and are from Amsterdam. Iby and Maaike had the idea to design clothes inspired by Mary Quant. She became known in the 1960s with the miniskirt and dresses and skirts made in accordance with the A-line. Together they started the online web shop IBOLYA. Their dresses and skirts are classics, with a twist. The style is basic with a surprising element. The dresses and skirts are entirely made in limited edition in Amsterdam, guaranteeing durability without unnecessary waste or transport. Maaike and Iby have consciously decided to keep the production in their own city and to collaborate with just one Amsterdam tailor. Iby and Maaike find it important to maintain a pleasant and long lasting relationship with their suppliers and they value their input. Everyone has an essential role in the resulting clothes. IBOLYA is therefore through and through Amsterdam’s: from sketch to clothes hanger.
IBOLYA designs are based on the sixties with a modern but still timeless character. The IBOLYA dress, designed in the style of the ' 60s but with today’s comfort and quality , as exemplified by the Cardy and Twigg.
Maaike and Iby are real sixties fans, which is also quite evident from the style of their own homes. The music, furniture and clothing from that time are their inspiration. They are creative, enterprising and enjoy introducing their label in a playful and surprising way. In this way, they have recently exhibited their dresses in the Amsterdam Fashion Hotel and held a thrilling fashion show during a sixties dance event in Paradiso, Amsterdam’s well-known music temple.
The name IBOLYA (pronounce as e-bo-ja) is Hungarian and means ‘forget-me-not’, like the small, blue flower: IBOLYA – dresses and skirts you won’t forget!
(1) Cardy
The latest design of Iby and Maaike, specially created for this exhibition in the Dutch Design Hotel Artemis. Colorful, tight, with a surprising detail. A dress that makes you happy!
The forms provide a symbolic element in every dress. The square and rectangle symbolize regularity and planning, which can be found in all dresses and skirts by IBOLYA. The circle and the ellipse stand for a cyclic movement emphasizing infinity: the style of then, now and in the future.
Cardy available designs: dark blue/circle, fuchsia/square, ochre yellow/rectangle, cardy light blue/ellipse
(2) Twigg
The favourite design of Iby and Maaike, the Twigg, is feminine but tough like Emma Peel from the famous sixties series the Avengers. A classic with a twist; a nod to the sixties.
