www.annebetphilips.com - product design

Annebet studied Industrial Design Engineering at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, where she graduated cum laude in 2007. Since then she has lived and worked in Amsterdam where she developed herself in multiple design fields, among which fashion design. While studying and working, Annebet simultaneously pursued her own design projects. In 2012 she sets up her own design studio which focuses on both independent projects and freelance projects that span from interior to product and concept design. Also lighting design (what’s in a name…) is a recurring interest.

(8) ‘I like it. What is it?’

‘I like it. What is it?’ is a series of brightly coloured knotted lamps.

The lamps are made of stuffed knitted fabric, which makes them not immediately recognizable as being lamps. The soft and touchable outlook of the objects invites the user to interact with. Because of the shape of the lamp - it has two long 'tentacles'- it is possible for the user to tie the lamp in various ways allowing the user to (re)shape the lamp as he or she likes. By making use of the properties of LED light - LED light bulbs do not heat up like regular light bulbs do – the designer shows that a lamp can also be a soft, touchable and mouldable object.
